Well it has been a lovely first week back to welcome in the new year.
This week, we have been consolidating our understanding of multiplication and division in Math to solve missing number problems and word problems. This has been much easier for the children who have been practising their times tables at home so don’t forget to go over the 2, 5 and 10 times tables with your child whenever you can!
In English we have had a fantastic time learning about how to use commas in a list and using our new knowledge to listen to and write our own list poems. The children have really loved looking at the classic poem ‘Pleasant Sounds’ by John Clare and the contemporary poem ‘The Sound Collector’ by Roger McGough.
In topic we have discussed how our we can express our feelings and manage our behaviour in order to be sensitive to the needs of others. We have also being creating a cat dance, which links into our Science work on Animal grow and life cycles. We conducted an interesting investigation into foot spans across the school and used the data we collected to complete a table and block chart. This will link nicely to the work we will undertake in Maths next week about gathering and presenting data as well as using charts and tables to ask and answer questions.
Next week we will be learning
- To gather and present data in charts and tables
- To ask and answer questions about data when presented in different forms
- To describe characters and settings from the story ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl
- To order and explain the life cycle of different animals
- To being to understand what it means to be Hindu.
Don’t forget- PE for Year 2 is on Tuesday. Children need to come appropriately dressed for the weather in their PE kit on this day and any long hair must be tied back. Children with earrings must have them removed or if they need to stay in, then tape must be provided to cover them.
