Hi all, hope you have had a fantastic half term break!
The children came back eager to learn and to participate in the fantastic Halloween activity day where we all had loads of fun and raised lots of money to help continue to build our library resources.
In English, we kicked off the week by being word hunters, collecting spooky adjectives to write some brilliant Halloween poems. We continued to work on our understanding of nouns and adjectives by learning about expanded noun phrases. We used our learning to produce some descriptive sentences about all the beautiful fireworks we hope to see this weekend.
In Maths, we have been looking at adding 2 digit numbers, using written methods such as column addition. Whilst we found it quite tricky at first to set the numbers out carefully, we have made lots of progress and next week we will be moving on to subtracting using written methods.
In topic, we have been learning about the art of Joan Miro and creating our own Miro inspired pieces. Miro worked in many different artistic styles and we have already produced a fantastic Magic Realism drawing and a Surrealist pastel picture too. Next week we will be learning about printing to create illustrations.
On Thursday KS1 had an amazing day out at the Centre for Life. It was a brilliant way to start off our Space topic and the children were buzzing to share all of the information they have learnt.
Next week we will be:
Starting our narrative topic on ‘Man on the Moon’ by Simon Bartram
Learning about written methods of subtraction
Learning about electricity and electrical safety
Learning how to stay healthy and personal hygiene
Learning about print making and illustrating.
