This week we have been celebrating the year of the Monkey. On Monday, we started off our day by finding out about life in a Chinese Primary school. There were some similarities to our school life but a lot of differences. We found out that there aren’t letters in the Chinese alphabet but a character that represents every word…by the end of primary school, the children need to know over 40,000 characters!
After break, we took part in a Chinese Numeracy lesson. We learned the characters for lots of different numbers and then used them to complete addition and subtraction sentences. Their number order is very different to ours, ask us all about it!
On Wednesday, we all were able to cook and enjoy our own Chinese meal. We used this opportunity to learn about food hygiene which is one of objectives for the year. Before we started, we all washed our hands. We then cleaned our equipment and wiped down our preparation surfaces.
When are area was clean, we then washed and prepared all of our healthy ingredients for our Chow Mein.
When all of our food was prepped, we took it into the staff room when it was fried with fresh noodles in a wok. Mrs Boden added spices and a Chow Mein sauce and we then enjoyed eating what we had cooked!
